New memory card format devices has been developed
New memory card format for portable devices called miCard (Multiple Interface Card) has been developed in Taiwan and approved by the Multi Media Card Association (MMCA). The card basically combines a memory spec with the existing USB 2.0. So you can take the card and plug it right into a USB port in your portable computer, for example. Because MiCard connects to USB it can also transfer data at 480Mbps - really a rocket speed. The new standard was developed by Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute and is capable of scaling up to an astonishing 2,048GB of data on very small card (measures 12mm x 21mm x 1.95mm).
At present 12 big Taiwanese manufacturers have signed up to the new standard and full engineering specifications will be announced by the end of June.
